I have always been interested in painting and drawing as early as the age of eight when my mother gave me my first oil painting set. She always encouraged my drawing and painting. I experimented with many different media, but found that oil was, at that point in time, the best for me. I ignored watercolor because I didn’t understand it. About 10 years ago, I took a class at the local community college in watercolor and totally changed my view of how I could create art.
I am an impressionist and follow a lot of the rules set by Monet and Manet. I paint landscapes and seascapes mainly. I still paint with oil, but the majority of my work now is watercolor. I always use museum glass as it protects the colors and is non-reflective. The majority of my work is done from photographs that I’ve taken because of light and changing weather, I have a constant to go by. I do paint animals for people if they request it and will paint just about anything else that is requested with the understanding that it is painted with my style. I currently do not paint people, but I plan on starting that in the near future.
